Congratulations to Of Monsters and Men for getting the “Million-Air” award from BMI. Awesome!
Here’s the announcement from the BMI website: "Phil Graham, Broadcast Music, Inc. Senior Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations, presented the indie folk-rock band Of Monsters and Men with a Million-Air award for one million performances of their hit debut single “Little Talks,” which scored the group a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Icelanders took a break from recording their next album, a follow up to their 2011 breakout studio album, My Head Is An Animal, to celebrate the impressive accomplishment.” http://www.bmi.com/news/entry/of_monsters_and_men_receive_bmi_million_air_award_for_little_talks About two weeks ago, Of Monsters and Men announced that they had officially entered the studio to record their second album. They had previously spent several months in their rehearsal space in Garðabær writing songs and recording demos.
Those that follow the band on social media and are familiar with the Icelandic music scene might already have figured out which studio they are using and which producer they are working with. Now nutiminn.is has confirmed that the studio is Sundlaugin, and that they are working with producer Richard Costey. Sundlaugin (“The Swimming Pool”) is located in Mosfellsbær, a few miles east of Reykjavík. The building was originally an indoor swimming pool. Sigur Rós purchased the building and transformed it into a studio about 14 years ago. It is now owned by producer/engineer Birgir Jón Birgisson and former Sigur Rós keyboard player Kjartan Sveinsson. Rich Costey has worked with a number of well known bands and artists, including Foster the People, Muse, Interpol, Jane’s Addiction, The Joy Formidable, Franz Ferdinand, Birdy, and many more. Source Kamilla Ingibergsdóttir, formerly with the Iceland Airwaves music festival, has joined the OMAM management team full-time. This interview with her appeared on the visir.is website on November 10th 2014.
FROM AIRWAVES TO OMAM Kamilla Ingibergsdóttir has reached a milestone. She has left her job as media and PR manager for the Iceland Airwaves music festival, and will soon be working for Of Monsters and Men. When Vísir reached her, she was tired but still riding high from the Airwaves weekend. “I've been associated with Iceland Airwaves for 6 years, and this was my fourth year as PR and media manager. It’s bittersweet. Of course I’ll miss my coworkers, and I’ll miss getting to organize this great festival. But I’m also looking forward to working with Of Monsters and Men.” She adds that she has already been working for the band for about 6 months along with her Airwaves job. “I will spend a lot of time on tour with them. Of course, when a band has reached this place in their career, there is so much to do. It’s like running a business. I’m looking forward to this; it’s an exciting job and I can’t wait to get started.” Nevertheless, Kamilla is going on a short vacation before starting the new job. “Yes, I’m going to Egypt and I will stay there for two weeks. It will be good to relax and eat good food for a while before starting the new job.” Source translated by us Thanks to Of Monsters and Men for posting a link to the video we translated and posted to our YouTube account earlier this year.
